In the Merit of the Righteous Women

Saturday, February 4th, 2012

The Midrash states: “The generations are redeemed only in the merit of the righteous women of each generation.” This was also true of the redemption from Egypt. Since that redemption was for the Giving of the Torah soon after, the women were given precedence at that time. The same will be true of the future Redemption:

since it will be in the merit of the righteous Jewish women, they will likewise be shown precedence with the Torah teachings of Moshiach. This is reinforced by the Kabalistic teaching that our generation is a reincarnation of the generation that was redeemed from Egypt.

The Ten Songs

Saturday, January 28th, 2012

On “Shabbat Shira – the Sabbath of Song,” we read in the Torah the song that the Children of Israel sang at the splitting of the Red Sea. The song begins, “Az yashir Moshe – then Moses sang.” The Baal HaTurim explains: The word “yashir” is composed of the letter “yud” (the numerical equivalent of ten) and the word “shir” (“sing”). This alludes to the ten songs sung by the Jews in praise of G-d:the song at the Sea; the song at the well; the song “Give ear, O ye heavens”; the song of Joshua; the song of Deborah; the song of Chana; the song of King David;

the song of King Solomon; the song of Hezekiah; and the song that will be sung in the Messianic era.

Material Good

In their description of the Days of Moshiach, our Sages discuss at length about the material good that we can expect in the Future to Come. For example, regarding trees it states: “It bears fruit on the day that it is planted” (Torat Kohanim, B’Chukotai 26:4). As well, “The [actual] Land of Israel in the future will produce cakes and fine silk clothes”

The Task of Every Jew

Sunday, January 22nd, 2012

It is the task of every Jewish man, woman and child, from the greatest of the great to the smallest of the small, to bring about the Redemption.  This mission is unaffected by distinctions of prayer customs, ideological circles, or parties: It is the concern of the entire Jewish People.

(The Lubavitcher Rebbe)

Open your Eyes

Our Sages explain that, in contrast to other living beings which were

created in pairs, man was created alone.  Why? So that every individual should say, “The world was created for me,” and thus appreciate that his conduct can affect the totality of existence.  The coming of the Redemption depends on every single individual. Simply put, were people to open their eyes, the door would open and Moshiach would enter.
